Computer Crash, Promptings and Exercising Faith

Last week I spent several hours burning pictures onto CD's. Since the whole world of digital sharing opened up, I have not been the best at printing off pictures. I was happy to finally have the pictures of Kamorah's birth and first few months of life in hand and ready to album. You can imagine my deepened gratitude for this when a few days later Spencer called to tell me that his computer crashed and everything on the hard drive was lost. We had thousands of pictures stored there, now completely erased. Thankfully we had burned most to CD's before our move, but had not copied any of the pics since our arrival here. I was so happy when I realized I had put most of my favorites on this blog and with the newly copied ones it seemed we were able to salvage a good record of our precious gals. Unfortunately though, we lost all our videos that had not been copied, including the birth videos (which apparently most normal people don't thoroughly enjoy watching like I do anyway) first crawls and some Texas fun. I am so grateful for the little prompting to get those photos copied and printed, just in the nick of time. Had I not done that we would have no record of Kamorah's birth and first months of life. You better believe that this last batch of photos went right onto the computer and then right onto a CD. And if you're one who doesn't copy pics right away, consider yourself urged to do the same.

Since General Conference I have been impressed by the example of our dear prophet. I feel inclined to want to remember each soul, the one, the individuals whom I associate with every day. I keep hearing his words "do not postpone a prompting" and taking more time to do little things I feel impressed to do. I have been amazed at how often the Lord seems to be waiting on me, anxious to give the help and blessing in following a prompting. Why don't I always do this?

Almost since birth, Kamorah has struggled with a clogged lacrimal punctum (her eyelid doesn't drain her tears and secretions). I have had my daily rituals of taking q-tips and warm wash cloths to massage and clean it out, but nothing has seemed to help. She just constantly had gunk in her eye and the doctor said that if it continued this severely, she would most likely need surgery. ( Believe me, I am counting my blessings that this is the worst of our health problems, but I still felt sad thinking of this little one needing to go in for a surgery on her eye) So after all I thought I could do for her, I realized that I hadn't really exercised my faith. I hadn't really prayed about it. I went to the Lord. Rocking her to sleep I sent out a plea to help her little eye. I felt like I needed to express that I knew He was the master healer and could heal her if it was His will. I just needed a little comfort that she was in His hands. I went to sleep that night feeling encircled, as always when I ask for it, in His love. The next morning I went to wipe her eye and didn't see anything there to wipe. The next day, no gunk. And now, several weeks later, she still has no sign of any build up in her eye.

A God of miracles.

"As soon as we learn the true relationship in which we stand toward God (namely, God is our Father, and we are his children), then at once prayer becomes natural and instinctive on our part (Matt. 7: 7-11). Many of the so-called difficulties about prayer arise from forgetting this relationship. Prayer is the act by which the will of the Father and the will of the child are brought into correspondence with each other. The object of prayer is not to change the will of God, but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is already willing to grant, but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work, and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings."(BIBLE DICTIONARY:Prayer)

Although I surely need to exercise much more faith in Him, I do know that He is ALWAYS there waiting for us to come to him. Waiting, wanting our Faith so that He can help us, heal us. "Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you." (Alma 5:33)

This literally brought tears to my eyes. We have had very similar experiences lately and I am awed by the feeling of the Hand of the Lord willingly working miracles in our lives - when we faithfully ask, and then live worthy to receive it.
Love your sweet little girls!
I'm so glad you got your most important photos onto CDs - The Father must have a great purpose in having your records preserved.

What touching stories! I love that you are so in tune to see those miracles in your life--and that you share them--because my life is enriched through that. Thank you, Sara!!

What a beautiful blessing that you have recieved through your faith. I am grateful to see your faith work yet another miracle. People truly are drawn to you and I so agree with your dad that you have a gift for that. Thank you for sharing your faith and miracle with us. It is truly something I needed to be reminded of. I am so happy you were able to preserve some of your pictures because the pictures of your children truly are treasures.

You are amazing. I'm glad you didn't lose your pictures! Did you know that CDs that you burn are only good for a couple of years? You will begin to have corrupted files in 3-5 years. The best way to store things long term is on an external hard drive.

Jenny-I'd heard that before about the CD's so I'll have to get on that external hard drive business. Thanks for the reminder.

That is so neat about Morzy's eye! I didn't know that. The sacred power of a mother's prayer for her child never ceases to amaze me.

Great post. I love that quote about prayer that you put in bold. It's a good reminder that there are blessings our Heavenly Father has for us, but we have to ask.

Love you Sara!
I've already bought an external hard drive a few months ago...huge for me since I really don't know what I'm doing! But haven't downloaded my photos yet. Thanks for the kick in the reminder :) I hope it's not that difficult to figure out.
I love the Mora story and the quotes on prayer. Great perspective!

I have ALWAYS appreciated this definition of prayer. Thank you for reminding me of the importance to ask in order to receive, to knock and have His door of unlimited affection open unto me. Have a peachy one, because you just made mine a little peachier:)

Wow. Isn't it sad that we rely so heavily on something that can crash in an instant? Computers make me crazy so I usually have my pictures backed up. I think It's been a while though. You're amazing and an inspiration to me to do better.

I'm glad I decided to visit your blog. I've been struggling with faith a bit lately. We all go through periods of doubt. I think but it always helps to hear others bear their testimony of God's love and recognition of his children.
